Erkkk.... wrong! That's what's making many of these
Kletz sent virii more smart. Most of them don't travel by attachment.
Just OPENING the email as it sets the virii loose, if you open it in
Outlook.
Yahoo and Hotmail are web email viewers, so opening up a
Kletz email in those doesn't affect the computer. But I bet if you
clicked on those links in a Kletz email.. it might. I recognize them
then immediately, and delete them. Yep.. I don't take chances with any
sort of suspicious email, even if it's from a close friend.
Sorry.
~Outlook is very vulnerable because of the preview window that lets you
see the email before actually opening it. No, it doesn't need to have an
attachment to infect your computer. Doc Norton catches the email before it
even appears in my inbox and quarantines it-- or rather doesn't let it
come in til I click the quarantine button. Then I double delete it, though
it stays in the Doc Norton file. Actually, I've heard that even
double-deleting doesn't really remove the email. It's still on the hard
drive somewhere and can be retrieved by some really smart computer person.
(?)
By the way, Hotmail's virus check did *not* catch the last Klez-infected
email from Andrew's address. Norton caught it in my Incredimail account
but my hotmail account is subbed to both lists and I noticed it was still
there....
