Okay... so having given it a bit of time, anyone got their issue 8 and want to talk about it?
I'm working on a letter to Peter, I figure we need to get more of us with letters in the comics again, names we recognize. I saw HT's in there. :D Anyway, here's the Obligatory Spoiler Space: Needless to say, I was psyched by the Cha Ocho (or one possible translation: Number 8 Tea??... okaaaaay.... ) and Leo sparring match. I really want to know what the backstory is on this, and what the big grudge is about. If I have a wee complaint, it's due to my iado classes: those hand postions! eeerk. :P The return of Mr. Braunze is highly intriguing, makes for lots of interesting conjectures, and I am enjoying that there's enough depth and history to the comics to savor this kind of thing. The little irritation with Splinter...hmm..... The letter about 'starting over' and redoing the TMNT from the younger days got me a bit fired up, I LOVE the mature TMNT because Peter has not run out of stories to progress forward with. It's more fun to see TMNT living up to the challenge of how strong something is that it can continue forward. Peter and the rest of the Mirage crew does not have to do what the big comics companies have done to ad nasuem, which is go back to the Origin thing, and update it and tinker with it trying to 'make it better' or 'more exciting'. <yawn> To me that's just an excuse to sell more #1s, or admit they blew it and have to start over and scrap the history and because they don't want to deal with continuity. It's easier to keep going over the same ground with just a few tweaks than to be dealing with years and character development because they have to CHANGE. Gee, a bit like life, then. Heck, if that person wants re-inventing the wheel, that's what almost all the comics movies do--start with the origin--and lets face it, the new cartoon is doing, too. But with the cartoon I can 'forgive' it because they are really pulling from the source material this time, so it has me happily intrigued. Of course, looking ahead the big question thanks to the Planet Racers site is, "who's going to die". Anyone want to make some guesses? I've had a number of ideas. The obvious is Splinter--and the future glimpse of Don burying Splinter could come to pass. Also, possibly, April. Less obvious is one of the other heroes, that might be considered "part of the family." And of course, it could be Robyn. So by the time I got around to all these possibilities, it left me with--it's going to be a surprise to me! :D Leonardo
