Long time screen user but only light use ..
I sometimes have trouble saving specific parts of `screen's' buffer to
file as I go.
I wondered if tmux has such a feature and if so; how one uses it in a
brief outline.
In screen one can mark out the wanted part of scroll back buffer with:
`Ctl-a ESC' [enter copy/paste mode]
Then navigate to beginning of part you wish to save and press
`spacebar' [To mark the beginning (one can use vi's Ctr-b `backup
one page at a time; but held continuously it moves back quite rapidly)]
Now navigate to end of buffer,
`press (uppercase G)' <vi command to move to end of buffer>
Then press
`spacebar'
again to mark the end of saved portion.
Now use;
`Ctl-a :writebuf filename ENTER'
to save it... but that sometimes fails to write to `filename' where
expected, even though screen says it has done so. Later I may find
the file in what appears to be some odd place. (But really is where
the root `screen' buffer was located)
I wondered if tmux does indeed have such a feature if it is totally
reliable, and not too complex.
Hopefully someone has a brief recipe they use to save certain parts of
tmux scroll back buffer and can descibe it here.
Might make it worth while to switch to tmux and start the learning
curve.
