I second this. Most often when I highlight text in any app, I double-click
so I can easily select a whole word (and then if I need to, I can keep
dragging to select additional whole words); and I also get a lot of use out
of triple-clicking to select a whole line. It is much faster and takes less
concentration and muscle control (for me) to do this than to painstakingly
position the mouse cursor at the beginning point of the intended selection.
I've missed this in tmux for a long time.

I realize, though, that it could open up a can of worms: different programs
(and the standard text fields of different OSes and desktop environments)
have different ideas about what constitutes a "word" -- and I'm one of
those people that really gets used to such details in one environment, only
to get frustrated when switching to another environment where the rules are
slightly different. It would be nice if the word-delimiting characters
could be configured (as is the case in some terminal emulators), but that
would lead to an explosion of possible config settings.
