Hi there ... the very old Ubuntu 14.04 comes with very old tmux:
$ apt-cache show tmux | grep -e Package -e Version Package: tmux Version: 1.8-5 While it is possible to compile latest tmux from the sources, you really should update your base system. (And maybe then compile tmux yourself as even 18.04 only comes with tmux 2.6.) To compile tmux, all you need is a compiler (obvious) and having the needed dev-packages installed. In case ./configure fails complaining about a missing library, make sure to have both, the library and its *-dev pa- ckage, installed.
