Forgive me if my terminology is a bit off, I am relatively new to tmux in terms
of any advance use (I've used it for years as a simple replacement for screen,
but am now trying to do some more with it)

Right now I have a setup where I have a window that contains three panes, one
on the left that is full height, and two on the right, one above the other.

This is great on my desktop with a large screen, but absolute murder on my
laptop.

What I would like to do from the laptop is connect to just the pane on the left
side, but I cannot figure out how to do this. The best I can do is connect to
the window, and then manually zoom the pane.

If it matters, I am using tmux in iTerm2 under macOS, though I have not yet
really figured out iTerm2's tmux integration features (the mailing list for
items is defunct). Also, if it matters, I am also still struggling a bit with
the concept of the tmux session and exactly when and why I have different
sessions. I don't need help with this right now unless it relates Tony question
above which I rather suspect it does.
