At one point I had code to put pane information in the pane borders but it is
fiddly to fit it all in and difficult to read when it is vertical so I scrapped
it.

Having a label inside the pane wouldn't be too hard, although I would put it at
the top of the pane rather the bottom.

I'm not sure, I think #T could be sufficient, at least initially.
