One question:  it applied with offsets to portable HEAD from yesterday:

  Hunk #2 succeeded at 208 (offset -16 lines).

  Hunk #4 succeeded at 1045 (offset -167 lines).
  Hunk #5 succeeded at 1168 (offset -167 lines).
  Hunk #6 succeeded at 1218 (offset -167 lines).
  Hunk #7 succeeded at 1251 (offset -167 lines).
  Hunk #8 succeeded at 1434 (offset -237 lines).

How come?
