Wouldn't it be better to just *not* truncate the lines in the first 
place so that a window resize "just works"?

screen does this right: when you resize a window, any previously printed 
lines get adjusted to the new width.  Quite neat when you use screen 
within an xterm and connect to it from different computers with 
different monitor sizes!
