Curses would definitely know better (at least, if it's ncurses). My money'd be on STFL. And of course, another possibility is that it's the user's fault, if TERM is being set inside of screen or tmux, to an inappropriate value that advertises "bce" (for example, if one has TERM=xterm or similar, when running _inside_ tmux or screen). Then either ncurses or STFL could rightly assume that it can let erases handle the background color, because it was told it could. -- Micah J.
