If the command which you are executing in the window (your shell by
default) exits, tmux will close the window. Check whether TMOUT or
autologout is set in your shell.

You may also want to look at tmux's remain-on-exit option. Adding this
to your .tmux.conf should help:

setw -g remain-on-exit  on
