How about implementing this as a command? choose-completion [-s source-window] [-t target-window] [template] -s is the window to scrape the search-string from -t is the window to search for the completion candidates template is like the other choose-XXX commands, and defaults to "send-keys '%%'" With no arguments (eg. as a key-binding) this would search the current window for completions for the word under the cursor. The existing window-choose infrastructure would be used to present the completions.
