I have a file called "ls-lR" containing the output of an "ls -lR --color=always
/". It's ~43MB large with ~660k lines.

Here's are the approxime real times from "time cat ls-lR" at 80x24 window size:

                        plain with screen with tmux
    st(suckless) 3s 8s 23s
    terminology 3s 8s 23s
    urxvt 3s 8s 23s
    konsole 5s 9s 25s
    vte(gnome-terminal) 8s 12s 24s
    pterm(putty) 12s (?!) 9s 25s
    xterm 22s 24s 32s

With the really fast terminal emulators, tmux introduces a 7-8x slowdown.
