Don't worry! For the moment you need a very simple work flow. Step by step
you get more experience and you use more and more functions automatically.

If you not sure is the your next step the correct way, make a new local
git clone and try it. So it is easy to get a roll back.

I have experience with sf.net is, github.com and gitorious.org. github.com
has the best usability. gitorious.org is open source and a option for
self hosting. For my - fs.net is worst option. The social coding support
is rudimentary. So you get not the full benefit of Git if the code
hosted on sf.net.
