I don't think many people miss this feature. There are enough external
tools with which this can be achieved, without any change to cxxtools:
If the logs from cxxtools are the only thing your application writes
to stdout and stderr, you can log to the console and a log file
simultaneously be calling your program like this:
<program invocation> 2>&1 | tee <logfile>
You can also log only stderr (which AFAIK is the default target for
logging, but maybe you can change that to stdout) like this:
<program invocation> 2> >(tee <logfile>)
Another possibility would be to let cxxtools log to a file, and then
watch that file for changes, e.g.
<program invocation> &
tail -f <logfile>
