My problem today is different. My toaster seems to be accumulating zombie processes of qmail-queue. this machine has been running for over a year, and this hasn't cropped up before. nothing new has been added to the mix. I tried to kill the zombies from the command line, but they seem impervious to a kill -9 attack. are these creating a problem? any ideas how to get rid of them?

I'm not sure if it is related, but I also seem to have an issue with the server accepting outgoing mail. Users are reporting trouble connecting to send out messages (incoming mail does not seem to be effected). any ideas?

Thanks again fro all your help.

What is your concurrency usage for local/remote, and qmail-smtpd? Are they maxed? What about the queue? Has it grown? Also, what is readproctitle reporting?

Bill -

Thanks for the quick reply.

The queue size has remained more or less constant (within 5 messages of where it usually is).

readproctitle does not seem to be reporting anything - there are just dots after it in the ps listing.

I am not sure how to answer your first two questions, but I would be happy to if you can provide a little guidance.

Thanks again.
