On a recent toaster installation (0.6) with chkuser-0.6.mysql.patch, I recently had issues subscribing to the Spam Assassin announcement mailing list (http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/spamassassin-announce). Upon sending the confirmation email to finish subscription to the mailing list, I received the attached bounceback that stated: "550-Response: 553 sorry, your envelope sender has been denied (#5.7.1)". I inquired as to why this was the case and received this response:
Hi Mike --
sourceforge.net servers will attempt to use callback verification via RCPT TO, to verify that your email address can *receive* mail. I don't know why. But that's why it's failing.

I then looked into what "callback verification via RCPT TO" was all about. Apparently it is some way of verifying the person who sent the email has a valid email account on the host their email address indicates. It is also appears to be somewhat controversial as well:

Is there any reason why this would not work on a toaster install? Possibly related to the chkuser-0.6.mysql.patch? I never had this problem running LWQ + vpopmail. I don't know if this matters, but I did send/relay the confirmation email through the toaster server via TLS on port 2525. My install also has echo 1 > /var/qmail/control/mfcheck.
I am not overly concerned that I cannot easily subscribe to the SA announcement mailing list. I am more concerned that perhaps I did something wrong on setting up the mail server in question.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Mike
