Do this MTA have the equivalent of chkuser? If so, you could amend the chkuser patch to check if the domain is listed in /var/qmail/control/ntdomains (or whatever you want to call it), and if so, then call a perl script or something to make an smtp connection and see if that user exists. Kind of a roundabout way to handle this, but it could work.

For that matter, you could have a separate file for each local destination server. I setup a virus/spam gateway for a company that wanted mail sent to servers with different MTAs, and they are in the same boat. One is qmail, the other is Exchange. Perhaps I'll look into this as well.. Does exchange support local user checks at the smtp level?

Not sure about Exchange, he's using some other MTA under NT, can't recall the name right now (VOPmail?), it will state at SMTP level if a use exists or not so likely a perl check might work for it. I'm working with him right now to implement a mail server for his new DSL offerings which will need a user interface so clients can setup their own 5 pack of email addresses, etc. That will be under a new domain and will likely stick with the Qmail box rather than being passed to the NT server.

The old domain has been an ISP since 1996 or so and it gets a ton of spam coming in, we turn away at least 90% of the connections hitting the box and there are still times where the load can bring it down (but then he did go and stick the scanner on a 200Mhz machine). New replacement is a P4-2.8 that we just loaded Fedora C2 on last night, another fun install there, it just happened to be one of two motherboards on the planet needing a special Fedora install disk too :)
