Not sure this is a problem or not but in the toaster for installing
courier-imap it says
Edit /usr/lib/courier-imap/etc/authdaemonrc
* Change authmodulelist="..." to authmodulelist="authvchkpw"
for me authdaemonrc already said
authmodulelist="authcustom authcram authuserdb authvchkpw authshadow
