I had the authdaemon working, according to ps | aux.
But it was not responding to queries with the error
"no such file".
So I tried to set the mailuser/group with the
./configure parameters.... and since this Im getting
this error message. :(
After one try the authdaemon wasnt starting any longer
... and re-compiling crashes with the mentioned error.

Try
stop courier-authlib
rm -fr /usr/local/etc/authlib
re-install following the toaster instructions.
All should be well.
I just finished upgrading one server to 4.04 courier and all is working.
