Hello Friends, At 12 Noon I visited the school, seems there is a farewell party scheduled and the students are in good mood. I found the Head Mistress at the entrance itself. Her name is Annamma. She is very co-operative.
School has Urdu and Telugu Medium. Classes are from 6th to 10th. Strength is 1700. Timings are 12:30 pm to 5 pm. She told that there are some children who don't have any slippers, means we can find few. If we want to help, we can consider 6th class and there are three sections with a strength of 70 students in each class. As students are celebrating farewell, they are busy. She told me that if 10th class exams are started, it would be difficult. I told her that we will come in next week, probably on tuesday. Then we will collect the data and we will complete the task by next weekend. Means as our budget supports, we will give Chappals/Slippers. Any day we should go there by 1 pm so that the children will be settled in classes after the prayer. I told her to let us know the details of poor children so that we can pay the fees. But she told me that there is no fee at all as it is a govt. school. There is one teacher by name Ushasri who died at 30 and her parents are giving a cash donation worth Rs. 1000 for children who gets 1st, 2nd and 3rd ranks in 7th class. Every year on January 26th, they will give this money. (I didn't ask any questions) This is a nearby school (comparatively) and that to a big school. I also noticed another school in the Punjagutta main road, where the roads are being widened. It is very small school. But still I will go and find the details if possible. I can go only on Monday as tomorrow is second saturday. Nachaki, I thought only 'summer' because it is very hot and children really cannot walk, if at all they have to. Other seasons, it is comparatively ok. Not a serious problem (in my view). Arun, If you can carry out that task in Chennai, well and good. No problem. Only thing is we should check for the budget. If we consider 100 children and suppose that a pair costs Rs. 30, the budget will be Rs. 3000. I do not know how much it will cost on bulk irrespective of sizes.
