Hi Guys, I am new to this group, so would like to introduce myself. I am Vijay from Bangalore, presently working in an IT company. I joined this group to contribute the little bit I can do to this group, and the society in general.
Coming to the point of the company website, I would like to overlay some of the advantages of having one. 1) Having a seperate "Domain Name", gives greater visibility to the group and helps in increasing the credibility of our efforts. 2) The group website can contain some features which may not be available with a blog/mailing list - Such as provision for leaving a comment to visitors. Describing in general, the achievements of the group etc. 3) Group website can used in tracking our overall donations and other social contributions made by us, and ensures greater transperancy. 4) As we see, the amount of mails is really large - and we quite miss the important points while going through the bulk. Website will contain important information - and can ensure urgency in such matters. 5) As for the matter of blog, some domain registiring companies such as GoDaddy.com provide free blogging facilicity with good facilities. It may also help us in setting up a wordpress blog, which is far easier to manage than say - that provided by blogger. And we can add the blog link in the main website as "www.domain.org/blog", which will show a greater level of authenticity. 6) The cost involved is also not so high and is affordable. I have checked GoDaddy.com, the best know domain name service - and they are providing .org domain at $7.95 per year, which seems to me, quite affordable. However, the domain name makeadifference, tomakeadifference or even make-a-difference are not available in the org category. The only one I found quite matching is: to-make-a-difference. However, I would definitely like more of your suggestions regarding the domain name. As per the blog - I am maintaining one at t-m-a-d.blogspot.com for the time being. If anyone is interested please send me your email addresses to my personal mail(please don't mail to group because they may get missed). That's all for today. Awaiting your suggestions. Regards, Vijay
