Friends, This is the mail I got from Dileep garu, translator of the book, Confessions of an Economic Hitman.
As you know, he is the owner and moderator of the yahoogroup, Spruha. Earlier Spruha used to be a Youth Club and as the members got employed and moved to different cities, he created yahoogroup. This group contains members of different nationalities. They discuss more on the political, social and economic issues. It is like a forum of intelligentsia. Once he told me that setting up libraries in villages is one of his dreams. When I forwarded my mail to the group, he replied with a good suggestion. We need to weigh the pros and cons of each model. ================================= Dear Prasanthi, Providing books to government schools would be a good idea. But I was thinking if we could identify large schools (there are many places in Hyderabad and also in districts where there is a primary, secondary and a high school located next to each other.) and set up a small library there. Setting up a mobile library might require more resources (vehicle, driver, a person to look after books) and might also become very tedious to operate. May be we can think of setting up small libraries (may be an almarah full of books, which can be replenished from time to time. A teacher can volunteer as librarian). This way, I think we can operate more efficiently and can also deliver tangible results. What do you think? Dileep
