They give the number of a girl (generally).
The main reason behind this type of behaviour is to tease the girl. I
happened to know about a gal's story whose number was displayed in a not so
decent community in yahoo. This was done by a guy who proposed her and she
denied him. Then after she got so many calls from all parts irritating her. She
got so depressed about the same and her family was insulted many a times, when
they gave report at a nearby police station.
The reason why I mentioned the story is - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do not send
such forwards to the group. Before sending it, please verify if it is a valid
number and is a valid case. If you are not in India and think that is a great
waste of time, please send the mail to one of your friends who are in India and
ask them to verify the case and forward the details to the group so that the
group can focus on IMMEDIATE ATTETION NEEDED cases.
