Friends,

Today we went to Niloufer Hospital.

We spoke with the Director, an advisor and the President of JD
Association in Niloufer.

The Director said that purified water and social workers (counsellors
in a sense) are the options if we want to help. He also opined that it
would not be good if we start something and leave it in half way. He
also said that it is not that govt. doesn't have funds but maintenance
is a problem if modalities are not taken care of.

After listening to us he put us to one Mr. Chakradhar, he is
associated with Smaraami Foundation and TeluguOne Foundation.
According to him:

1. Blood -- 30 to 50 units every week
2. Purified Water --- 20 to 30 ltrs a day
3. Social Workers -- 5

Blood

The first and foremost requirement is blood. They require 30 to 50
units of blood every week. He said would be great if we people can go
regularly and donate instead of giving 800 units of blood at a time.
There is bound to be a wastage if donation is done in such a large
scale. They are ready to come and collect if 25 people are willing to
donate blood.

Purified Water

Small size water filters does not serve the purpose as such as they
have to be changed every year or so and they do not cater to the
actual requirement. If we have to think about providing purified water
it should be in a large scale, Reverse Osmosis, technology. The cost
would be around 2 lakhs to 3 lakhs. Byrraju Foundation, Naandi
Foundation and GMR Foundation -- Only these three organizations are
using this technology in the areas they work and if we can ask the
inputs, we can get the details of the cost and maintenance.

For maintaining the service, they make sure that they will charge for
the water (as low as 25 p or one rupee). The reason is that anything
free is bound to be received with irresponsibility.

Social Workers

Coming to social workers, there are some organizations who are
providing social workers to guide people. But they do the counselling
only for the people that they bring to Niloufer for treatment. They do
not reside at Niloufer and guide the regular patients. So they require
a minimum of 2 to 3 social workers and ideally 5.

We need not even search for volunteers or for the process as there is
some organization which do these things. They train the people, give
them uniforms and then employ.

Mr. Chakradhar is ready to come and give a Presentation in corporate
companies representing Niloufer Hospital provided we can facilitate.

After coming out, we met the President of JUDA, Niloufer. Actually Dr.
Bala Sreenivas, Chaitanya and others met them earlier. He told that
there is no shed (roof) for the patients outside. It would be good if
we can contribute for setting up sheds. But this depends on the
permission from the Director. This is just his opinion not the
Hospital Mgmt. opinion.

All in all we felt that it was a good and fruitful effort and we have
to see how best we can help.

The sad part is that Media is creating negative impact and suspicion
in people, the more apt word is that instead of creating trust and
hope in people they are encouraging disbelief. They are not ready to
speak their hearts as any small miscommunication or general news also
would be sensationalized and that gains attention for all wrong
reasons.

There are many groups in this forum and also most of us are working in
MNCs. Why don't we organize blood camps for the hospital directly?
Most important suggestion is 25 to 50 people one time instead of all
the employees contributing at once. Think about it.

Anyone who are interested to organize a blood donation camp in their
company, can request Niloufer authorities to come and collect blood.

Thank you.

with regards,
Prasanthi.
