Dear All, Last sunday, we had a good event at udavum ullangal illam, the home for kids(KG to 9th standard).
As you know we have conducted a test for kids from 5th to 8th and last month they are all busy with exams so didnt disturb them. This month when we went there with the usual cake for this month's bday kids, we also took so many books for them. As we corrected their papers, we found out where they were lagging and if its patience or the interest or the proper guidance etc and we gave comments accordingly on their answer sheets. Some even didnt care where they were ticking...I mean if they had to tick on option 1) or 2) they were doing it some where in between. We also found that they are interested in reading books and so took soooo many books. stories for kids below 6th and astronomy is fun kind of books ,puzzles in math, riddles, tamil crossword, tamil->english->tamil dictionary,wings of fire, ignted minds both in tamil and tirukkural(like our vemana satakam, but every tamilian is fond of and proud of this book) We gave them as gifts. But all this is sponsored by RK gaari divali foundation(Rs 825). But paper setting, printing, correction, book selection buying and even diwali foundation name is written on the books by TMAD chennai :)))))) I also bought some 8 wall hanging charts for Rs.120 with vegetables fruits, animals, vitamins, tamilnadu map, etc with details both in tamil and english printed so that every one can read them in both languages. On these I have written ToMakeADifference and gifted to the Home. >From our group I suscribed to "The Hindu" for the Home and swaminathan from Diwali Fn subscribed to one tamil news paper. We paid one month adavance Rs.100 each.If any of our grop memebers wanted to give anythg to this Home, we can give it in the form of books. Now I know so many good tamil book stores in chennai. For three days I was on this task of searching good book stores. :)))) We have taken snaps and I will give the link of the pics along with the drawings of the kids which were very nice in my next mail in this thread. ( I need a scanner to upload those drawings) Next time we planned to goto another govt run Home too along with this one.
