Yesterday Karthik, Ravi Shankar and I visited the Govt. Primary School, Ambedkar Nagar, Rethibowli in Mehdipatnam.
We decided to get in touch with other individuals, groups and organizations who offered support to the school and see how we all can develop the school. Also we decided to file an RTI asking the guidelines of the Govt. for schools with respect to infrastructure and technicalities and how many of them are addressed (for each rule/guideline what is the status of this school and other schools in this Mandal). With this report, everyone will get an idea of what is lacking and what should be provided based on the norms. All the other things that do not come under the norms we can take it up with the help of interested NGOs. The Headmaster, Mr. Naresh, told us about different govt. schools in the vicinity which are in a dilapidated condition. Still the students there managed to secure a total of 537 marks in SSC, highest in govt. schools. We visited Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel School. Photos will be posted in this url: http://picasaweb.google.com/prasanthi.uppalapati/ We came to know that there are 6 to 7 colonies in Mehdipatnam area whose residents are very active. There is a community hall near Amba theatre but it was closed when we went there. Karthik will find out the contact numbers of the key persons in these associations and will set up an appointment asap. Initially we need at least 6 to 7 volunteers from Mehdipatnam to form a colony club there and do the activities.
