Hello, This is a request for financial support for the social and developmental work we are carrying out in the Palani hills. For the last five years I (IIT Kanpur, 77) and a few friends are working full time in the villages of the Palani hills and the slum areas of Kodaikanal and Palani towns. We work in the areas of micro credit, sanitation and awareness building. I think that in the 18 villages where we work we have made a difference. Around 5000 persons are directly benefiting from or involved in our projects. Over time we would like to build this into a social and political force in this area. I think that in the areas we work in we have shown people, particulaly youth, who are interested in soial change that there is an alternative culture and model to that of the existing political parties, actor fan clubs and religious organisations. When we began this work in 2004 we financed it from our savings and are continuing to do so now. However we have grown and the monthly budget needed for our field workers and projects has increased too. We need financial support for our work. As a matter of policy we have not approached and donor agencies but are asking for donations from individuals. >From this January we appelaed to the people in the local villages where we work and around 1000 of them now give us Rs. 10 a month to support our work. That is not enough as there is so much more we want to do and so many more villages that we want to cover. We need your support. If you help us we will send you a quarterly newsletter about our work. We also welcome visitors to see the work we are doing. You can combine it with a holiday as Kodaikanal is a pretty tourist town.
