Hi All, I chanced upon to visit another grass root level Organization ( With the help of Satya) working for Mentally retarted people called 'Yamini Foundation' in Vivekananda colony, kukatpally.
This is run by Mr. Srinivasa Rao, an ardent devotee of Shirdi Saibaba. His daughter herself was born as mentally retarded. In addition to looking after her, he is serving so many under privileged kids to enable to have a dignified life. During our discussion, I asked him naively whether it can be cured by treatment. He clarified that it's a condition and not a disease. Here are few observations on few of the inmates. (1) There is one old lady whose mental age is of a 2 year old. She was kept locked in a room by her parents for somany year under the feeling that her sisters would not get married. Now, after so many years she is seeing the world. We were told that in initial days of joining school, she used to byte other people since she is not used to have company of other people. (2) Few of the inmates have hyperactivity problem. These kids should be dealt very sensitively. If any word is uttered which is not conducive to them, they loose their temper and beat other people. (3) Daily they come in the morning for learning few basic things to become literate and do some basic things in a household (Such as going to grocery shop to buy things, counting money, etc..). (4) Few of them are getting trained on vocational courses. The income coming would be deposited in their accounts and these inmates would be given the passbook. The mental state of the inmates is like they do not know what to do with that money. They are making some products like vaseline. Given these kind of uncomfortable situations, the patience and perseverance with which srinivas garu is working and leading other volunteers is highly commendable. I feel we should give a helping hand to him to scale up and sustain the organization. Satya is trying to collect few funds from his office. Let me know if you have an interest to visit this organization. Regads, Ravi.
