Guys,

Take a look at what would happen when people take matters into their own hands,
when they become socially responsible. Gandhiji's quote is so relevant and so
very apt.

Bihar's bridges, way to a new work culture

        * Today, this government company is the biggest taxpayer in eastern
India. When the Kosi floods struck, it made a contribution of Rs. 20 crore to
the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Reliance was the second biggest contributor:
Rs. 9 crore.
        * The corporation has in the last three years constructed more bridges
than Bihar did in the last 30 years! Since 1975, the corporation had
constructed 330 bridges. In three years, 336 bridges have been inaugurated. In
fact, on 11th June, Chief Minister Nitesh Kumar inaugurated 140 bridges in one
symbolic gesture in Patna.
        * The corporation, which has a Wifi campus, is the only company in
Bihar, which has got ISO 9001 and 14001 certification. The corporation’s slogan
is: We build bridges of confidence. Efforts are on to beat deadlines now.

A town full of surprises

        * The municipality has also responded to the initiative of residents
who have created parks from garbage dumps. It now has a scheme where it
contributes 70 per cent of the cost and expects the neighbourhood to raise the
remaining 30 per cent to convert such empty plots into gardens. As a result,
Jhunjhunu is full of gardens, many of them named after secular heroes like
Bhagat Singh and Netaji Bose.
        * today there is door-to-door collection of garbage in 12 of the 35
wards. The residents now do not have to pay anything extra for this. Some
middle class residents are not entirely satisfied with the municipal system and
continue to take their own initiative to keep the drains clean in their
neighbourhood by hiring a sweeper for the job.
