Dear All, This is a great initiatie by Gyan Shala, if you can support it in any way please do so.
Cheers Chaitanya Gyan Shala is an educational support organization and a chain of 300 one-room schools in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, educating 9000 children; it also supports the government school system and reaches another 9000 children in municipal schools. Professor Pankaj Jain, Founder and Chairman, has managed to reduce the cost of primary education to just Rs. 125 (US$ 3) per month, per child, in Gyan Shala-run schools; where learning outcomes have been shown (by an MIT study) to be almost twice as high as the best government schools in the city. Gyan Shala has been intensively analysed by Monitor Inclusive Markets which due its focus on catalyzing market based solutions for social change, works across multiple sectors, creating interest in the field and building a network of individuals and institutions which are interested in learning more about and contributing to the social space. The Karmayog Corporate Social Responsibility Study and Ratings shows that almost every company that is engaged in CSR initiatives in India is involved in Education, either directly, or by supporting government and NGOs. The challenge of providing basic education to all of India's children can be met only if corporates provide the necessary backing, together with NGOs providing the know-how to implement and improve government's existing systems and structures of education. So do see www.gyanshala.org or see http://www.karmayog.org/redirect/strred.asp?docId=26327 (4.5 MB file) for a presentation on an Introduction to Gyanshala as prepared by Monitor. In what way can you support Gyan Shala or other education initiatives e.g. consultancy, donations, etc. Regards, Vinay www.karmayog.org -- resource sections on 350 social subjects PS: a) Hall available at Churchgate, Mumbai, at nominal rates for events.
