Dear Birds, Greetings.
I think this is my first e-mail in this New Year. Wish you all a very happy, healthy, prosperous and fruitful new year. We, TMAD group volunteers, visited two govt. hostels for visually challenged on 1st Jan. It was a wonderful experience and very much inspired by the spirit of them. They have many talents, they are qualified and what all they are looking for is some support in their efforts to stand on their own. Govt. blind hostels in nanal nagar area. There are 2 hostels for adult students (intermdiate to PG courses). 1. Home for the Blind, Salarjung Colony (College Men), H.No. 9-4-86/50, Salarjung Colony, Mehdipatnam , Hyderabad. Hostel Warden: Kondaiah: +91 9247182034 Student Coordinator: Naidu, B.Ed. Mobile No. 92460-48411 and Arshad, D.Ed., Mobile No. 98857-01806 No of Students: 100 (Intemediate to Phd.) 2. As exams are fast approaching, this is the immediate requirement and will make a lot of difference. General: 1. IPod for each inmate (they can record and they can read) 2 Computers in their hostels so that they can practice (DTP, MS-Office) well Aspirations 1. Media Support They want media to write about them, their talents and also about what they expect from the society. They do not want sympathy but empathy. They want to prove that they can stand on their own. They expect livelihood. 2. Job opportunities Most of them are B.Ed. and D.Ed. students. Some completed their courses and are looking for opportunities. Some are trained as tele callers and some in DTP, MS-Office etc., 3. Sports Competitions They are good at sports too. There are Chess Champions, Karate Champions and other players. They want tournaments to be conducted regularly so that they can develop their physical abilities and also leadership qualities. Those certificates would be of great value to them when they apply for govt. jobs. What we did so far!! 1. Our members Kasyap and Murali came forward to donate Computer and Speakers. Murali said that he will approach his company, Hellosoft, to donate some computers. (Earlier they contributed 5 computers to Gautami Satyagraha Ashram, Rajahmundry) 2. We are working in Govt. Primary School, Rethibowli, Mehdipatnam and we are giving employment to one person to work as a teacher in this school. He will join from this month. 3. a. Spoke with Rama garu of ETV2 (Sakhi programme) and she promised that she would do a shoot after 31st Jan. Her programmes are usually aired on Thursdays @ 2 pm. 3. b. Spoke with Satyababu of Sakhi Daily to write a story on them immediately emphasizing the requirement of people who can read/record their syllabus. 4. Also spoke with one of my friends (who wish to be anonymous) who earlier requested me to show bright visually challenged job seekers as she wanted to provide them training and employment as tele callers. She has been relocated to some other city but she replied promptly saying that she is interested to give job offers in Tele Calling and DTP. Hopefully things will fall in place in another two to three months. Haven't uploaded the photos yet. Will share the URL of the video. -- Thank you. with regards, PRASANTHI. http://groups.google.com/group/birdsofsamefeathers ---- When you want something, the whole universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
