"15,231 infants died during 2008 – 09 in Tamilnadu, India. The only mistake
committed by these babies was that they were born to poor mothers, who
couldn’t afford quality health care and costly life saving treatments"

Ekam foundation is partnering with another NGO, Disha (
http://disha.resolve.at) and is glad to announce the launch of our new
community Pediatric health Coverage, *Paripoorna Bala Suraksha* project with
a unique three tier model – (Government Health Insurance schemes -
Paripoorna scheme- Comprehensive Pediatric Coverage - Ekam Health coverage)
in February/ March 2010.
*What is unique about Paripoorna?*
It is a unique model aimed at providing health care to children below 18
years at three levels, complementing the government’s insurance scheme.

   - For an insurance premium of just *Rs 221 per child per year*, the
coverage includes all illnesses with no exclusion criteria.
   - The insurance premium for the poor children in Tier 2 is entirely borne
by the community which will be handled by Equitas microfinance, Mafoi
foundation and NGOs who can afford the premium.
   - Star Health Insurance plays the administrative part of operating funds
in a purely service based model with a stop loss rather than a business
   model.

*Who are the beneficiaries of Paripoorna ?*
Ekam along with Disha has got to raise the premium for 10,000 very poor
children including 5000 rag pickers, 3500 stone cutter/quarry worker
children, construction worker children and migrant children, 1000 child
beggars, 500 orphan and semi orphan children who may be normal or disabled,
who cannot afford the premium. These children are identified by partner
NGOs.
*Fund Raising:*
For Tier 2, we need to raise a sum of Rs.22.1 lakhs for 10,000 children for
the pilot project in Chennai by February/March 2010.
For Tier 3, we also need to raise Rs.60 lakhs for the coming year for 5
lakh poor and very poor children in Chennai which also includes children
referred from tier 2 and regular Ekam referrals.
*Be an Angel...*
Let us all work towards the vision of Right to health for every child and
ultimately no child should be refused of health care because of financial
constraints, no parent should feel guilty of not able to give adequate
health care and no doctor or hospital should feel guilty of refusing
patients because of financial constraints.
Kindly donate generously for the cause and help save the lives of the needy
children in the society.
