The story could easily be scripted into a kitschy horror film or tele-serial. An aspiring Bollywood scriptwriter from Mira Road is so convinced that he is being harassed by a temple pujari in the avatars of a crow and a pigeon that he has taken his case right up to the state information commissioner. The authorities, meanwhile, feel Apoorva Chakravorty’s complaint is a figment of his own imagination. Chakravorty alleges that the pujari of a Chembur temple is present in the form of a bird at all the negotiations he holds with people in the industry. “I met the swami in 1995 regarding pujas to help with my career. The rites did not change my fortune and our relationship turned sour after that. Since then, the pujari has been manipulating my brain and spoiling my deals by visiting my house in the form of a pigeon or a crow,” he said. *The complainant’s version of events* Apoorva Chakravorty approaches temple priest for a puja to improve his career prospects. They soon have a fallout Chakravorty lodged a complaint at Rashtriya Fertilizers and Chemicals (RCF) police station last year. A sources at the police station said, “He even presented pictures of pigeons and crows inside his house.” The police, who do not wish to name the priest of the Chembur temple, are utterly baffled about how to deal with this case. They say the Mira Road resident’s claim is not scientific and impossible to investigate. “Chakravorty’s claims cannot be proved. The action he is demanding is not feasible,” DCP Zone 6, Dilip Sawant said. Not satisfied with their response, Chakravorty took recourse to the Right to Information (RTI) Act. He first sought information from the RCF police about what action had been taken on his complaint. The pujari takes the avatar of a crow (and sometimes a pigeon) to harass Chakravorty while he is meeting prospective employers Unhappy with their reply, he appealed to the DCP Zone 6 through the RTI again. But here too he faced dejection. He recently approached the state information commissioner for relief. State Information Commissioner (SIC) Dr Suresh Joshi, who heard Chakravorty’s second appeal, said the petitioner did not seem to be in good mental health. “There is no logic to his assumption that someone is taking the form of a crow or pigeon and harassing him. It does not amount to a cognizable offence,” the SIC observed. The SIC ruled that the commission could barely help in the matter and added that the petitioner could approach senior administration officials of the police station. Chakravorty said he had met several senior officers, including DCP Dilip Sawant. He said that everyone had ignored him. “I am going to lodge a fresh complaint as per the directives of the information commission,” he said.
