Many users report me that /opt is mounted RO on their systems.

No dictat please, OpenSource is democracy, I launched a poll some months
ago and the result where for /var/tomcat and all subdirs.

Like Costin I use 3 differents Tomcat at the same time: TC 3.2.1, 3.3 and
4.0b1.

TC 3.2.1 goes in /var/tomcat. Since 3.3 is the replacement of 3.2.x series,
TC 3.3
goes also in /var/tomcat. If I need to have at the time TC 3.2.1 and 3.3, I
rename the dirs
before installation. TC 4.0b1 allready goes in /var/tomcat4

But if this config is fine for TC 3.x/4.0 developpement, in productions I'll
be
more to follow the Redhat/Mandrake way (explained in a previous post)
