The ldap problem happens with JDK 1.3+, and is fixed in the HEAD of the CVS. 
The workaround for the bug is relatively simple (I suppose you found it 
already): delete ldap.jar.

We will document the new policy regarding the XML parser, but I'm afraid there 
are as many people if not more who had problems with the absence of a XML 
parser.

Craig is working on this, so I'll leave the bug open.
