After some examination of the code, implementing the behavior you suggest 
apparently isn't too hard (although I'm not convinced it is required), so I'm 
committing the patch for it to the main branch. The nightly for 11/15 will 
include the fix.
I'm not sure yet if the change will be ported to the 4.0.x branch, as patches 
which change the classloading behavior are by definition risky.
