In order to investigate an issue I need to be able to build a test case from your description of the problem. There is simply not enough information in this bug report to do this. Unanswered questions include: stdout/stderr from where still go to catalina.out? Where are you expecting it to go? What has this to do with log4j? Do you specify a default context? If yes, what settings?
