Configuring tomcat

Hi everybody, i am a new user of tomcat; i am trying to install it and configure it. i would be very thanked if anybody could tell me if i need to install a web server such as Apache for working with servlets or whether exists the possibility of deploy servlets only within tomcat.   Best Regards
