Downloading .doc files with Tomcat

I'm using Tomcat 3.1 and have also tried with Tomcat 3.2 beta 6, and with
both versions I can't download Word documents. This happens on any Windows
machine, and the download of a file is only problematic when it's a Word
document, all other filetypes seem to work okay. The problem is that when a
Word document is requested the client browser seems to hang. Has anyone seen
this before? Is there a fix?
