Try running the shutdown command several times.
On HP-UX, I need to run it 3 times to shut tomcat
down; on solaris I only need to run the script once.

It appears to be related to the way different JVMs
handle interrupting threads; I've asked several times
on this group but no-one seems to have an answer 
for this problem, and, as there is a work-around,
I guess we just wait & hope it goes away some
day with a new jvm release....
