I noticed that getRealPath returns null when running packed. This makes sense because there is no "real" path; it's running from within the war. I didn't want to corrupt any responses with this. I also wanted to make sure this is reliable. Sounds as if it is.

The original question is skewed at best, however, as a webapp is not supposed to know whether it's packed or not and certainly not supposed to run differently depending on whether it's packed or not.
