Howdy, Adding swallowOutput=true to your context definition also achieves something similar: tomcat will redirect stdout/stderr to the context log, which tomcat also rotates nightly. Furthermore, many elements in server.xml and the main web.xml support debug/verbosity levels which you can tune down. And finally, tomcat uses commons-logging for stdout/stderr so you can configure that ad nauseam.
