I think tag pooling was dropped for 5. (I can't remember) Benchmarks never showed a measureable performance increase.

Really? I suppose that's a good vote of confidence for the VM in general. I would think that saving a bunch of object instantiations and, later, garbage-collections would be measurable. Oh, well.


So, did they just decide that the added complexity of taglib instance pooling wasn't worth the (apparently miniscule) performance benefit they got? I'll take a look at the archives.
