Howdy, I wanted to correct my error earlier today: log4j version 1.2.8 does indeed automatically recognize and parse XML configuration files placed in the WEB-INF/classes directory of your webapp. I said that only works for properties files, not XML, but I was wrong. This is a fairly recent addition, my bad ;)
