The popular myth that it is because the city of Jakarta happens to be the capital of the island of Java is just that: a myth. Now you can all go and search the archives to get the explaination of why a small Island off the cost of So. CA. (Catalina) is the package-name for most of the Tomcat (4.x and higher) classes, when the principal author doesn't even live in So. CA ;-).
