followed install instructions - are they complete?

i followed the install instructions on the website but i cannot run the 
test jsps or servlets. the error message i get for JSPs is: Class 
org.apache.jsp.index_jsp is not a Servlet

Last version of tomcat i installed was 3.2
Back then there were instructions on configuration xml files that had to be changed.
It seems like there's not much to do for a windows install with 
version 5.0.12. Or I cannot find the instructions.

Is this list archived anywhere? i could not find it in google groups?
