Use the Type 4 JDBC driver for SQL Server and you will be fine. You didn't mention what version you are using. My suggestion is to stay away from anything older than SQL Server 2000.
One more thing. Be sure to check with Microsoft on the upgrade plan to the SQL Server Yukon which is coming out later this year. Planning ahead will save yourself a lot of grief down the road.
