Donald,
Sorry that you had to give up. I am not sure what was causing you so much trouble but I know that it can be replaced. I actually moved my index.jsp and replaced it with a .htm . I then had to edit the index.jsp for it's new home. If you end up back on TC5 at some point you could copy index.jsp, rename it and the change the welcome page settings in the web.xml.
