What do you see as being primitive about JSP?
At any rate, remember Tomcat is just one part of the Apache Jakarta project,
which has many sub-projects that provide the functionality of what Zope does,
and more, of what Zope provides, and is comparable in scope to what the Apache
mod_perl project provides (I personally favor Mason over any other web
development environment).
I've used Zope myself before, and was not very impressed with it. It was just
too slow and I found it frustrating at it being too high-level and not being
able to get at the underlying programmuing interface (Python). I prefer having
separated aspects of developing web applications, each one doing one thing and
doing it very well, than trying to do everything in one big bloated and slow
application.
Just my 1/50th of a dollar.

we can't control when the five year period will begin.
